Registration deadlines are in place to ensure the integrity of the course being offered. Therefore, a $50 late fee will be applied to any student who wishes to register once the registration deadline date has passed.

Cancellation Policy:
A full refund, less a $25 admin fee will be issued if a cancellation occurs more than 1 month before the start date. No refund will be issued within a month of the course start date.

Out-Of-Province Students are responsible for determining their own eligibility and securing temporary licensure for course attendance in a province other than their residence/clinical practice province. Please consult the PT College website of the province you are visiting to learn about requirements (they vary from province to province).

Course Description:
The course is a one day in-person course on the topics of DCM (Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy) and LSS (Lumbar Spinal Stenosis). It is an evidence-based course highlighting the role of Physiotherapy in managing these challenging, often missed conditions. We will take a practical ‘Monday morning’ approach, where the assessment and management strategies will be immediately applicable in any clinical practice. Current research suggests that these conditions are frequently misdiagnosed or ‘late-diagnosed’, often resulting in worse patient outcomes. The course is applicable to any Physiotherapist who deals with cervical or lumbar spine patients in an outpatient/ private practice or in-patient capacity.

Course Objectives:

Review the etiology, pathobiology, and prognostic factors for DCM and LSS
Review and enhance the subjective and objective assessments required to identify these conditions
Enhance the clinicians’ understanding of the clinical presentation of DCM and LSS
Discuss and practically cover the management strategies (including exercise, education, and manual therapy) to address DCM and LSS
Present common differential diagnosis for DCM and LSS
Present key clinically relevant outcome measures for DCM and LSS
Discuss which presentations of each condition may necessitate a referral to a GP, sports med doctor, physiatrist, or for a surgical consultation
Instructor Bio: Terry Woodard
Graduated from the University of Manitoba (U of M) in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science and in 1993 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (Physiotherapy). Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapists (FCAMPT) since the completion of his Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy with credit in 2004. Obtained his MClSc (Manipulation) at Western University (WU) in 2014.

Has worked in private practice in Winnipeg for more than 30 years and is a senior Physiotherapist at the Pan Am Physiotherapy clinic. He holds part time teaching positions at the U of M and previously at WU. Terry is a mentor, instructor and examiner in the CPA Orthopaedic Division. Has presented at local and national Symposia, educational meetings, and OD adjunct courses.

His preferred area of practice is complex spine conditions focusing on pre/ post operative management of cervical and lumbar spine patients. He is working with the Winnipeg Spine Program to develop evidence informed post op Physiotherapy protocols for the cervical and lumbar spine regions.

Recipient of the Manitoba Branch CPA, Leonore Saunders Mentoring Award in 2013 and Susan A Macdonald Award in 2023. Was awarded the Lynn Chapman National Clinical Mentorship Award in 2023. Actively involved in the mentoring of motivated physiotherapy students and graduate physiotherapists who are working through the level system of the CPA Orthopaedic Division or WU MClSc program.

Favourite past time is travelling with his wife and daughter. Recently returned from a trip to Ireland, where The Cliffs of Moher and Giants Causeway were the most incredible stops.
