Achilles tendon ruptures are the most common tendon rupture of the lower extremity. Despite extensive research, debate persists, both in Canada and internationally, regarding operative versus non-operative management, with ongoing controversy surrounding optimal treatment strategies. Given these trends, establishing evidence-based management pathways is increasingly important. The aim of this issue is to review the mechanism of injury, clinical assessment tools and review the current literature to highlight best-practice care pathways for patients with Achilles tendon ruptures.
